What is Leeds Digital Makers?

We all bring unique skills to the group and the thing we all share are our values around accountability, giving, curiosity and empowering everyone to create with digital skills.
Who runs Leeds Digital Makers?
Hello 👋 We’re Leeds Digital Drinks and we’ve been connecting the tech, creative and startup community in Leeds for the past five years!
We’re a team of five members who organise and run events around Leeds, most notable of which is Founders - a showcase of local entrepreneurs who share their startup stories in the form of short TED talks.
You'll find us supporting the brilliant local talent we have here and we are always up for collaborating on something new!
Why did you start Leeds Digital Makers?
During lockdown our world shifted online and the types of events we normally ran had to change too.
We started Leeds Digital Makers as a way to stay connected as a community and empower people with the ability to make positive change by taking action and solving problems.
This could be as simple as programming a video game for a friend, curating a website of music playlists or creating a mood tracker app!
We know how fast the tech world moves and now more than ever we know collaboration and learning alongside other makers is the key to keeping up to date (and having some fun while doing it).
How does it work?
During lockdown we having been virtually meeting bi-monthly to check in, share progress, talk about cool products/apps and see where members could use a bit of help.
We also have a Slack group set up that is free to join where we'll share tools and resources as well!
We’re big fans of the no-code movement and have experience using these tools that cut down development time massively such as Airtable, Zapier, Webflow and many, many more.
What is no-code?
No-code, low-code, visual development - these are all terms used to describe the next wave in digital innovation. That is, applications that allow you to build websites and apps - all without writing a line of code!
Think of it like the digital equivalent of Lego blocks - allowing you to build whatever your imagination allows without having to redesign essential blocks every time!
You'll be hearing about them a lot over the next year so you'll want to stay in the know 😉
That sounds good! Who can join Leeds Digital Makers?
Anyone who has an idea that they want to bring to life!
We just ask that all members who join the community are also willing to support and respect all makers regardless of background or experience level 🙂
